TONGRACK Another name about which there is very little information. It is very rare and yet there were six Tongracks listed in the Hull telephone directory for 1990 (before the mobile phone became dominant).
The name first features in the Hull civil registers in 1907, but a family of the name was resident in Barrow on Humber, Lincolnshire, in the late 19th century, and is recorded there at the 1891 census.
The head of this family was David Tongrack, born in Lincolnshire c.1839.
Tongrack looks like a place name, though none like it has been found, unless one considers a place in Wales (Dyfed) called Tangraig – I wouldn’t.
Tong is a place name and there is a Skyrack in Yorkshire, so the two syllables have a locative appearance.
