The arms of John Alcock (1430-1500), Bishop of Ely. He was the second son of William Alcock (d.1434) a Hull merchant. His older brother Thomas, and younger brother Robert, were both merchants and both served as Mayor of Hull. Bishop John founded the school that was to become the Hull Grammar School. He also founded Jesus College, Cambridge. The arms of the college are those of Bishop Alcock and can be seen here
